It’s weird because he meant for american dad to be political but it ended up being the least political of his shows.
yeah the writers admitted that they realized having stan and haley argue about politics all the time was basically a concept with zero shelf life. like they initially expected that to just carry the show but then they were like “wow no this is actually going nowhere let’s not lean on it”
how american dad can be so good and family guy/the cleveland show so horrible is one of life’s great mysteries
I can only assume that seth macfarlane’s only involvement with american dad at this point is showing up to do voices
there’s also that episode where quagmire’s dad has a sex change and then has sex with brian and when brian finds out he literally vomits for 30 seconds of uninterrupted screen time and not as like a background gag it’s all that goes on in the scene
which would be pretty standard terrible family guy shit except seth macfarlane went around beforehand hyping the episode up as “probably the most sympathetic portrayal of a transexual character that has ever been on television” and defended it afterwards by saying that brian is straight and “If I found out that I had slept with a transsexual, I might throw up in the same way that a gay guy looks at a vagina and goes, ‘Oh, my God, that’s disgusting.”
